Community means the people you have things in common with. Your local community are the people who share the same streets, parks, shops and services as you. You may be part of other communities too. They could be based on a church, mosque, temple or gurdwara. They could be because of the sports team you support. Or your hobbies and interests. If you belong to a youth group, that’s a kind of community. School is an important community. After where you live, school is probably the place you spend most time with other people?

Your resolution might be something to do with your community. For example :
- helping to look after the local space you share
- treating people from other communities with respect
- going out of your way to include people who are lonely
- looking out for other people in your community who may be in need.

You might not think it, but you probably have skills and energy that other people in your community lack. Everyone has something to offer other people, even if it’s just a smile and a wave in the street.

So, think about making a resolution that is to do with your community. Making that bit of life better that you share with others outside the place where you live. If you want to do something locally, do talk to your parents, the teachers at school, other adults you trust and to your friends. They can help you make a success of your resolution – and to stay safe as you do.
